Fiber access network refers to an access network in which optical fiber is the transmission medium. Fiber optic access networks can be technically classified into two categories: Active Optical Network (AON) and Passive Optical Network (PON). The active optical network is composed of Optical Line Terminal (OLT), Optical Network Unit (ONU) and Optical Distribution Terminal (ODT). The local terminal devices and remote devices of the active optical network are connected by active optical transmission devices. Passive optical network refers to the optical distribution network between OLT and ONU, without any active electronic equipment.
